'CURRENCY'

ORIGINAL UK  LP on PAGE ONE RECORDS POLS 014 from 1969

Here's one VERY rare LP from an interesting, and sometimes misunderstood band.
The anomaly with PLASTIC PENNY was that they alternated between 'ear-catching' melodic pop tunes and the occasional cover song, to extremely heavy psychedelia and later-sixties progressive rock.
There are definite shades of 'Nice' and even the heavier 'Yes' material of the time, with upfront keyboards against seriously mean rock guitar soloing (as Davy O'List did when let loose on early Nice tracks).
There's also that wonderful combination of the two - when the hard-edge instrumentation worked towards a strong
and more commercially-accessible accessible end. That is amply demonstrated on the excellent opening track 'Your Way To Tell Me Go', and on the other side; 'Baby You're Not To Blame' - both fantastic numbers.
The 8+ minute 'Sour Suite' is the focussed, rocking interplay that ends the album in storming style - a stunning epic number that hints at what they could have been to the 70's underground rock, had they endured and stayed on the scene.
It's a roundly quality album that must be considered their culminated apex.
It's a great listen for so many of the inherent qualities, but....somehow it sank without trace on release, and was then swiflty deleted from the catalogue! Thus, (like Billy Nicholls' Immediate 'Would You Believe' 'non-release') it became one of the scarcest Psych issues on a standard record-company lable ('Page One' being from the Fontana stable), and rarely appears here on eBay or....wherever. The word 'RARE' is too small a word for this one!

 
CONDITION;
The single-sleeve laminated COVER is EX+, having some light wear only - the back has underlining to the titles and band, and some small writing about the band-members, and shows very little wear or aging. 
The VINYL grades EX+ , with full shine, plays through GREAT!
The lables are EX .
