Ya know pound for pound, this is a very good/solid album and has been for 50 years!
ORIGINAL 1967 first pressing on the famed DECCA RECORDS label... The mighty WHO featuring one of the best, most important, and thoroughly entertaining albums, peaking with the timeless smash gems, "I Can See For Miles" and "I Can't reach You" but don't stop there boys, there's nuggets up and down both sides...
So this is what happens if you let Mods go psychedelic -- rather than do a half-hearted jump on the bandwagon they will instead give you a full-fledged parody of the music world around them. Disguised as a show on a pirate radio station, complete with jingles and faux advertisements, The Who Sell Out shows that Pete Townshend was a keen listener to the music of 1967, because much of it shows up in more or less disguised form on this album -- The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Sgt Pepper being some of the more obvious examples -- but almost always the context will be a funny one. Call it a step ahead, if you wish.
For The Who themselves, the album was a handy device to bridge what must have been a transitional period for them; this was at the time when they were just shedding their R&B-influenced Mod personalities, but they hadn't quite become the rock gods yet that Tommy would make them. That transition is also noticeable in the music, as a surprising number of themes and riffs from earlier songs show up on this album, and riffs that would be more fully developed on Tommy also make a first appearance here.
The Who Sell Out leaves a very strong artistic impression; it is a very clever, entertaining record with punch and some really great hooks. "I Can See for Miles" the obvious LP highlight -- they've never been this entertaining ever since this album.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: near "EX" (excellent) his is actually a very nice copy. there is only very slight prior use visible, basically all the graphics and images are sharp and colorful, very stiff and rigid otherwise! Still with bright original colors, no seam splits, no delete marks, no bumps or bends, no writing
The vinyl: Rated: "EX" (excellent) to near M- all glossy and vastly clean over both sides, and only lightly used prior to this posting so easily play grades in minty audio zones, start to finish! ... with clean Decca labels.... A cool addition to anyone's music library!
