PMC 1202 Mono Press (1963)

Masters XEX 421-N / XEX 422-N

Often regarded as the 3rd pressing after the quickly withdrawn Black & Gold labels.

The label type came for a short pressing run after the 1st and 2nd Gold & Black Parlophone label, sometimes with an extra 33 speed text, but before what is commonly refered to as the standard '4th press' with 'Recording First Published 1963' text on the label.

The sleeve is the first and original which housed the Black & Gold labels, and a short run of these early Yellow & Black labels.

This is indicated by the 'Photo: Angus McBean' text being offset to the far right of the bottom corner, starting below the end of the last 's' in songs.

Sleeve: Good overall condition, laminate is fully intact on front pictorials, extends over on to flipbacks which have creasing and wear but have no rips or tears away from the sleeve.

The sleeve is generally clean, with only a few light smudge marks on reverse.

Moderate storage wear along all edges and corners, but the spine is completely intact and title text complete and legible. The opening edge is neat and the sleeve is free from ripples, and the iconic photo retains a bright glossy appearance.

Inner Sleeve: Fully functional correct EMI Emitex advertising plain white PATENTS APPLIED FOR poly-lined inner.

The Vinyl Disc: Very Good+ Condition

The vinyl surfaces retain their first pressed bright black clean glossy sheen. There are the occasional light hairline mark on either side visible under normal bright light but purely superficial and nothing that detracts.

No warps or scuff marks, and the record lays completely flat on the turntable.

Manufactured on robust heavy 163 gram early sixties vinyl.

The labels are Very Good, quite neat spindle hole and area around the rim, fine spindle lines confined to centre circle area. Text is clear and bright.

The Gramophone Co. Ltd text around outer rim.

The MZT tax code is embossed on the label.

This is a rarity and only comes on a small fraction of early labels due to the transitional tax code adjustment at EMI at the time.

The Audio: Excellent(-)

The record plays with a crisp clarity from start to finish without any detractions such as loud ticks, pops, skips or stops. Track change interludes are quiet with only a little light static on some. Little lessening in the original audio quality in terms of very occasional light crackle, and on the whole a very strong rendition of an LP that is bound to go up in value over time.

The LP will be delivered in a quality double-part cardboard LP mailer with stifferners.

The record placed separately in a plain generic inner to prevent wear to the original.

Also comes housed in a PVC record protector.

Item will be marked as fragile and sent recorded delivery.
