..|/\|...............................................|/\|.. "Made In England" - (plum color) ATLANTIC RECORDS - 2400101 ....1971 BRITISH "plum color" FIRST PRESSING with plastic lined printed inner sleeve!
The gatefold 1971 U.K. cover is the hardest part of the package to get... 48 years later most copies are well worn. Here a beautiful survivor ... (see full details below.)
As many collectors know, this is the first "full-power" Yes album, where the Anderson/Squire core acquire their primary gun who is of course guitarist Steve Howe. Not barely a minute into the first track, Howe's impeccable style and glorious tone boldly announce the arrival of one of the best progressive guitar players; and at the same time, the full arrival of the now unstoppable musical force which is Yes. Although the band would certainly evolve throughout their career and tackle increasingly ambitious projects, the music on this album is not diminished the slightest bit in the shadow of their later, more far-reaching masterworks.
Right from the first guitar notes, Howe shows the why of his hiring, and the show goes on with the amazing guitar solo in The Clap, a live-extravaganza. Another uber-Yes classic the 9-mins+ three-part Starship Trooper fills the rest of this first flawless side of vinyl, where Tony Kaye's organ flies forward because of Howe's more versatile nature, and is one of fans favorites in YES musical moments: a little over 4 minutes into the song (4:14) begins one of the most transcendent and beautiful vocal harmony arrangements one could ever hope to hear. All Good People is another timeless Yes classic with 7-mins divided in two movements, and what a way to open up an album's flipside. This track transpires positivism and is still often used as their first encore live. Probably the only track that's not well-known, A Venture is just as superb as the rest of the album and still remains underrated today, despite Kaye's graet piano solo and plenty of tricky time signatures. The closing 9-mins Perpetual Change is another classic track that made this album a legend and actually much more consistent than the following Fragile album to come.
Yours Is No Disgrace (9:36)
The Clap (3:07)
Starship Trooper: Life Seeker / Disillusion / Wurm (9:23)
I've Seen All Good People: Your Move / All Good People (6:47)
A Venture (3:13)
Perpetual Change (8:50)
CONDITION: The cover: rated: M- rating : incredibly hard to find in this PRIME condition Very delicate 48 years of age BRITISH original GATEFOLD has but sticker pull, repaired, so not so noticeable at bottom left and otherwise solid / colorful, collectible appearance and very color/stiff all over.
The vinyl: Rated: 48 years UK onward, pretty decent VG++ with only very fine hair scuff surface lines that are barely visible, though there, that being said the play grade delivered excellent audio as there is nothing deep, which is a big plus and means everything. Most seasoned collectors know ... anyway, the cover as it is, the record as we report, backed up by eBay's guarantee of satisfaction ... you decide and we'll be 100% to process your potential order, should you be the lucky winner of this gem. Oh and, both UK plum Atlantic Records labels are clean ...maybe some very hard to detect on side two but really none on side one. A cool addition to anyone's music library!
