Laying it on thick on side A are probably the godfathers of the modern funk scene - The Poets Of Rhythm. Taken from their rare-as-bin-ladens-autograph debut album, "More Mess On My Thing" comes on like a long lost JBs cut - a mesmering fatback groove with a heavy punctuated bass and smoking horns. On the flip, another Daptone related band, The Budos Band, fire up an afro-infused monster with the "Budos Theme" - upping the tempo and dropping some of the finest sax work you will hear. As with the Poets Of Rhythm, this track was licensed from the influential Daptone label and was the first time it has ever been issued on a 45.
