Description
I recently purchased this single in a lot of nearly 800 45's from an estate sale. The last eBay buyer returned the single saying his reason was that the single is a bootleg or counterfeit.
Photos 10 - 12 show singles (NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION) from the same record label (ATLANTIC), of approximately the same vintage, from the same lot of nearly 800 45's, mostly radio station copies, all vintage, and mostly in New Old Stock condition. Absolutely nothing of this single's provenance supports any rational theory of counterfeiting.

It would seem it is an original promo press - just from a different pressing plant, which explains why it doesn't have the stamp. Bootleg promos have red text.

The answer to your question pertaining to the run-out portion of the disc is NO. To be clear, there is no "inverted capital S with the letters c and r in the curves".There is, however, two "P" like etchings in the dead wax and "AT" is also etched in the dead wax. The aforementioned markings are also in the dead wax of the ATLANTIC singles shown in photos # 10-12, namely BLACK HEAT, 45-2890; and BARBARA LYNN, 45-2880.
These ATLANTIC SINGLES are all vintage originals.

Hi John, thanks for the reply. All the original promos I've had over the years all have that stamp (the inverted S with the c and r within the curves). I know there is a bootleg promo with red text instead of black text but that's the first time I've seen a promo with black text not having that stamp, so I'm not 100% sure on it. I can understand why someone has returned it though if it's missing the stamp.

Try googling PLASTIC PRODUCTS RECORDS. According to Discogs: It was a Pressing plant located in Memphis, Tennessee. Opened in 1949 by Buster Wiliams. Records pressed at this location by large labels such as Atlantic and it's affiliates can be recognized by the "PL" suffix appearing in the matrix numbers on the labels, and / or "PP" etched in the runout.
This disc has "AT" and "PP" etched in the "deadwax" run-out.
