record is in Very Good + Condition and has been
fully Play Tested and it Sounds Great and plays with
no skips or repeats & has a nice full warm loud tone
with just light occasional mellow crackle & the LP has
shiny clean vinyl with some light visual wear including
a few scuffs & some scratches, but none that interfere
with the sound too much & also has shiny clean
wear-free labels with no writing or markings

cover is in Very Good Condition with bold bright
printing and has intact seams & no writing or markings
but does have wear to the corners & edges in addition
to there being 2 small neat clear tape repairs to small
parts of the top & bottom seams. the cover also has
some light ringwear & also some light soiling to the
plain white background of the back cover & edges

displays & plays nicely

by Panou's time, the earlier styles of Laika and Dimotiki
had coalesced into something mainstream but still very Greek
with Poly Panou arguably out-singing Lidia by a hair

"Bouzoukee Music can rightly be called Greek jazz.
Today, the bouzoukee bistros in new York, besides doing
a roaring trade, boast a following of renowned aficionados.
Among the sophisticated members of the bouzoukee
cult are singer Tommy Sands, actress Sophia Loren, actor
Dana Andrews, playwrights Tennessee Williams and
William Inge not to mention socialites, college students
and tourists from all corners of the world.

That is not to say, of course, that the Greek people,
to whom this haunting and hypnotic music really belongs,
aren’t among its most devoted camp followers. For on any
night during the week, braving summer rains or winter snow
storms, you’ll find youthful sailors from the just-harbored
Hellenic ships, middle aged Greek business men with their
wives, raucous old bachelors sitting back in their favorite
bouzoukee clubs to revel in the rhythms of the bouzoukee.

“And what exactly is a bouzoukee?” the uninitiated ask.
A bouzoukee is a long-handled, gourd-shaped, handmade
instrument that dates back to the long-gone days of the
old Byzantium. Yet, it’s remained a favorite instrument in
the Bohemian atmosphere of the open-air tavernas along
the colorful waterfront of Piraeus in Greece, providing the
musical background for solo dances of fishermen and mariners
who oftentimes balance tumblers of drinking water or wine on
their heads while twirling to the bouzoukee’s stirring music.

Now in New York, there’s bouzoukee music to please all
tastes from sensuous tsiftetellis to mournful laments of lost
loves to taxims (or solo improvisations) at the crowded
bouzoukee hideaways in Manhattan’s fur district.

Usually seated on a rose-lighted bandstand at the far
end of the night-club, the bouzoukee player plucks the
strings so effortlessly he’s likely not to call much attention
to himself or to his instrument of handsome inlaid ebony
wood with mother-of-pearl trim. Bouzoukee players sit; one
never has an image of them at their feet. And, judging by the
dozens I’ve known, they all affect black, bushy moustaches
(all except young Yanni Tattasopoulos and Yanni Stamatiou
whose bouzoukee is heard in this album) which accent their
gold-capped teeth whenever they break into a smile.

While the bouzoukee is played, some youngish man
with eyes dreamy from his drink of ouzo will step forward
and snap his fingers as he begins tracing intricate, syncopated
patterns on the hardwood dance floor. Sometimes he dances
alone, sometimes with a male friend, occasionally
with a girlfriend or wife.

With Nina’s latest “Bouzoukee Party” album, you can
hear the outstanding music of Yanni Tattasopoulos and
Yanni Stamatiou, two of Athens’ best bouzoukee players.
Miss Poly Panou, renowned in Greek circles for her singing
artistry, adds richness to the bouzoukee music with
her earthy interpretations of a number of songs.

~ Our Record Condition Guide ~


since everyone has their own ideas about grading the condition
of records, we've decided to spell out how we do it. our descriptions are
also extremely thorough & individually note flaws that a generic condition grade
cannot. we also occasionally assign a + and - for in-between grades

Mint

perfect, never played & usually still factory sealed

Near Mint

nearly perfect with almost no signs of handling

Excellent

the slightest visual wear that in no way interferes with the sound

 Very Good +

light visible signs of handling & wear but well taken care of
and plays with only mellow occasional crackle and/or soft pops but 
nothing interfering with enjoying the record/artwork

Very Good

obviously used & handled, but not mishandled, with no skips,
repeats or bad noise, but with noticeable crackle, pops & soft tics or
artwork defects, but nothing too bad overall

 Very Good -

considerable visible wear & background noise with possible
skips, repeats, tics and cover flaws, but still enjoyable & would
be obviously well-used and somewhat mishandled

So-So

anything below VG- which we rarely sell, except
for really rare records that are worth listing only because
they're so hard to find & sought-after in any condition

Disclaimer

not everyone's turntable sounds & functions the same, but we
have a nice sensitive set-up that makes flaws very obvious to us and we try
to note everything we ear and see. while vinyl is an awesome sounding format,
there is almost always some sort of background noise while listening to a
record. we are just about as picky as anyone, so trust us
but be sure to read our descriptions carefully!
