Stephen James Buckley has been steadily reshaping the psychedelic fringes of northern England for years, and this latest Polypores release shows how far his home-built universe has stretched. What you hear is less a set of electronic pieces and more a series of organisms moving at their own pace. 'The Body Is The Spaceship' unfolds like a living circuit with polyrhythms knotting and unknotting as new shapes appear at the edges. 'Wizards!' pushes deeper into his prog instincts: a single harmonic centre supporting cascades of changing metre. The flip-side wanders into stranger terrain. 'Hungry Vortex' feels almost biological as the flute-like tones and soft clicks circling without concern for the grid. 'Void High' closes things in a calmer register, warm and slow, as if the system were finally settling.
