The genius engineers of strange, beautiful Moog music. This made me reconsider my thinking on ambient sound. In regards to Aphex Twin ambient or Boards of Canada ambient; Popol Vuh's Affenstunde is a masterpiece of atmosphere. This 1971 record proves how willing musicians were to create something different --more along the lines of a single concept. It's exciting to purchase an album you have no preconceived notions about; one you have no idea what it will sound like -and you find a certain magic in it. Discovering that magic is what's so thrilling about listening to music today.
