POPOL VUH Aguirre Italian PDU First Press

Welcome! Here is a first Italian press of Popol Vuh Aguirre (PDU Pld. SQ 6040). On this 1975 quadrophonic album, the lineup is Florian Fricke, Daniel Fichelscher, and Djong Yun. Note that the PDU release came out one year before the German issue on Ohr. Note also that this album has the side-long Moog track “Vergegenwaertigung” (actually recorded in 1971-1972), often missing from CD editions.

Matrix numbers and mother/stamper codes are:

Side 1: P 025497 SQ-14-1-76 1. But, there is no mother/stamper code.

Side 2: P 025498 SQ-14-1-76 1. Again, there is no mother/stamper code.

Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?

Sleeve: The low-gloss laminated sleeve grades EX. There is VERY faint, partial trace of ringwear to the reverse, visible only when light hits this at a certain angle. There are VERY minor bumps to all corners, but this really is negligible. Overall, this sleeve is super beautiful! The spine has noticeably “pinched” ends, correct for a sleeve of this vintage (see pictures). The sleeve is signed “grapyche magica 2000 milano.”

Vinyl: The vinyl grades VG, with occasional background crackle. Light surface wear is visible to both sides, but there are no scratches. So, not “CD-quiet,” but I can put “Vergegenwaertigung” on my turntable and space out quite nicely!

Labels: Both labels are clean, with average spindle tracking.

Inner Sleeve: I am not an expert on Italian releases, so I cannot guarantee that the inner sleeve is original to this album. The inner is a plain white sleeve, cut at each corner. A plastic liner has been added; again, I do not know if this is original.

And, in the end: The vinyl is not connoisseur quality, but this is nevertheless a very serviceable first-press Italian Aguirre. If you like “spacey” Popol Vuh, “Vergegenwaertigung” will do the trick! The Moog played here by Florian Fricke was acquired in late 1975 by Klaus Schulze, and I believe Klaus still owns it. Anyway, please email me with any questions.

Me, I do not want to make this a requirement. But if I have a receipt from the Vestal, New York, post office confirming my shipment to you, that is the end of my delivery responsibility.

Pursuant to my statement above that I am not a dealer, I do NOT gouge anyone on shipping costs. If you are in the USA, figure on $4.00 for good ‘ol Media Mail; of course, you can do Priority, Overnight, you name it.

For shipments outside the USA, I generally use the value that eBay shows for First Class Mail International, although if I believe that my packing – on which I pride myself – will likely knock the cost up to the next price level, that is what I will go with initially. If the actual postage price turns out to be less, I will post an immediate refund for the difference. Please take a look at my feedback; no one has ever had an issue with my items or their shipping cost.
