Description
An ultimate Porcupine Tree rarity which only a few people will ever own. There is a sad story behind these test pressings, as many of you may know the Gates Of Dawn label was owned by Michael Piper, a guy everyone liked and a dear friend of mine for many years, a key figure on the progressive rock scene. He passed away not long after these test pressings were made, and the LP was never issued as intended on Gates Of Dawn # GOD 014... so only a small number of test pressings exist. I am selling these for his sister, who will get the proceeds from the auction. READ CAREFULLY: these are mint condition, played once by me to judge the sound quality, the reason for this is that all of the small batch of test pressings made had identical patches of vinyl discoloration on them. They do not exist otherwise, and the vinyl grayish discolorations are visually bands at the edges of the discs, several inches long, an issue in the making of the test pressings at RTI. If you put your head right in the speakers you can hear brief few passing bits of almost inaudible noise only in a bit of the most silent/quiet parts, very, very faint, they sound great. I couldn't hear anything until I put my head right by the speaker. Otherwise they play perfect, of course. It was impossible to photograph the discolorations, due to the reflectiveness of the vinyl. As I said all of the few copies pressed were identical. I sold a couple of these in the past, now Michael's sister could use the money from this set she has been holding on to for many years now, so I offer them on auction. If you have any more questions, let me know, they sound great, but it is important that you know about these vinyl discolorations which all copies had. The sleeves are mint, the discs played once carefully. I auctioned another set of these some time ago, so I have put the minimum bid very low to have a nice conservative starting value for this special item by one of the most collectible and great progressive rock bands of all time. The winner of the other auction was quite happy!
