John Powell's score is an astonishing orchestral feat-sweeping, heartfelt, and full of fire. Working solo for DreamWorks for the first time, Powell fuses Celtic instrumentation (bagpipes, fiddles, pennywhistle) with vast symphonic forces to build a sonic world as rich as the film's visuals. From the rousing opener 'This Is Berk' to the soaring emotional arcs of 'Forbidden Friendship' and 'Test Drive', the music captures wonder and flight with unmatched precision. Beneath the cinematic polish is deep thematic clarity: heroic motifs, stirring action cues, and subtle emotional shifts all feel earned. Jonsi's 'Sticks & Stones' rounds out the album with gentle optimism, though the score's strength lies squarely in Powell's pen. One of the finest animated scores of the 2010s and a landmark of 21st-century film music.
