This two-LP set combines a pair of leaderless jam session albums, Olio and After Hours; the latter set has since been reissued on CD in the OJC series. The overlapping personnel features trumpeter Thad Jones, Frank Wess on tenor and flute, either vibraphonist Teddy Charles or guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins or Paul Chambers on bass and Elvin Jones or Art Taylor on drums. Waldron contributed six of the ten originals, Charles brought in three and the band also interprets "Embraceable You." This straight-ahead collection finds these young musicians playing quite well and uplifting the dates above the level of routine jam sessions.
