THE PRETTY THINGS - PHILLIPPE DEBARGE 12" Vinyl Signed By Phil May, Wally Waller & Jon Povey UT (Ugly Things Magazine) Records #2207 This first pressing edition is out of print
In 1969, after founder Dick Taylor left the band, the Pretties had some downtime while they regrouped. They were asked by an eccentric French heir, (and massive Pretty Things fan) Phillippe DeBarge to make an album featuring his vocals. Phil May (Co-Producer & Backing Vocals), Wally Waller (Co-Producer, Bass, Guitar, Keyboards, BV's) , Jon Povey (Keyboards, Drums, Percussion & BV's), new Pretty Things member Victor Unitt (Lead Guitar, BV's), plus Pink Fairies drummer Twink (on tracks 2,3,4 & 11). In September of 1969, using material penned by may & Waller (with contributions from Povey,Twink and Dick Taylor), DeBarge added his not-too-bad lead vocals. Upon completion, he took the tapes back to France, with plans to get them released. It never happened. The tapes disappeared somewhere along the way, but the always excellent Ugly Things magazine, using one of only two known acetates, finally released this holy grail of The Pretty Things catalog in 2008. And it ain't bad at all! I'd compare it to Lord Sutch & His Heavy Friends.
Songs Side 1 : Hello, How Do You Do? / You Might Even Say / Alexander / Send You With Loving / You're Running You And Me
Songs Side 2 : Peace / Eagle's Son / Graves Of Grey / New Day / It'll Never Be Me / I'm Checking Out / All Gone Now
Heavy vinyl first issue was signed by Phil May, Wally Waller & Jon Povey, I purchased on the day it was released directly from Ugly Things. This 1st edition quickly went out of print. It's housed in a really nice heavy cardboard sleeve, with a one page insert.
CONDITION : A solid "A-" all the way. Cover has been kept in a plastic sleeve since it arrived at my door. it came with a very tiny corner bump. The vinyl's been played exactly twice, the second time I burned it to a CD.
