RELUCTANT SALE OF MY VERY SPECIAL PRINCE MEMORABILIA COLLECTION!!!
Some incredibly rare pieces, as follows;
1. A complete set of 1984 'Front of House Sheets' for the 1984 cinema release of Purple Rain! 8 very very rare prints, in their original envelope as sent out by Warner/Columbia in France, slightly smaller than A4 (28cm x 21cm), which would have been circulated to cinemas for advertising the release of the Purple Rain movie in 1984. They would have placed prints like these in frames around the tills, so you'd see them when you bought your popcorn! For these to have survived in their original envelope, obviously unused, is an absolute miracle, as 99.9% would have been displayed for a few weeks and discarded. Pristine condition.
2. A rare Prince publicity/fan poster from 1984, classic 86cm x 56cm image with his printed autograph (pre the more common 'Love God' signature), in used condition, with wear and tear commensurate with age, light creases etc., but nice vivid unfaded colours, large size, and very displayable. Rarer than many of the posters from around that time. Marked '1984 PRN Productions'.
3. A unique and rarer-than-rare 'WEA' (Warner-Elektra-Atlantic) 1st proof print of a poster that as far as I know never made it into production! Dated 1988, marked 'W.E.A. PRINCE 30 x 20 POSTER Job No 26448 1st Proof 23/8/88' at the top, and 'Photography: Frank Griffin' at the foot. It carries the printer colour markings along the top edge, and the actual image size of 76 cm x 51cm (30" x 20" in other words!) sits within a larger sheet of 90cm x 64cm. I'm guessing this was run off for a poster selection meeting, they decided on another image, and this ended up in a cupboard! I have found several similar images from that year from the Lovesexy tour where he has the same trousers on ('Prince' written down the leg), but I have never seen this exact image. I believe this to be a one-off. There is minor wear and tear to the surface, I can imagine it being spread out on a table during a meeting and people passing it around, but there are no tears or major creases, it's really very clear and vivid, and it would look INCREDIBLE framed up!!!
4. A set of 18 press photography photo 35mm slides from the vaults of London Features International Ltd. (LFI), late 1980's to mid 1990's mainly. All in great condition except one which has a small piece of the plastic casing missing. I'm guessing these were stored amongst archives until no longer required or digitised, and then sold off. Some terrific tour shots, wonderful images of Prince singing or playing guitar in different outfits, and a great one of Prince and Chaka Khan at the 4th Annual Whitney Houston Achievement Awards, which I think was in 1998.
I should stress that no copyright is offered or implied with these slides, or with the other items, they are just items of memorabilia, but certainly incredibly rare and beautiful images of the great man, whose musical talent, humanity and sense of humour touched us all!!!
