SIGN "O" THE TIMES
orig. Acetat aus den
Bernie Grundman Studios,
Hollywood, USA!

TO ALL EBAY USERS ABROAD (WORLDWIDE):

Orig. 1987 PRINCE acetate for his classic album
SIGN "O" THE TIMES,
made by Bernie Grundman Mastering, Hollywood, CA
For many years, Prince (and Warner Bros.) have used the services of Bernie Grundman’s famous mastering studios in Hollywood, CA. Once the mastering of a new vinyl album had been completed, Grundman delivered an acetate (a sort of test pressing), so that his clients had the chance to express their consent before a run of potentially millions of vinyl pressings of such an album could begin.
An acetate is not made of vinyl. It’s made of a similar material that’s called "acetate". An acetate pressing such as the one on sale here is playable like a vinyl album. It has a metal core, though, and the material does not lend itself to as many playbacks as a vinyl album without any wear. Literally just a handful of acetates are usually made, so that – as in this case – PRINCE and a VERY small amount of people could decide whether the pressing from BERNIE GRUNDMAN’s mastering could already begin or whether anything would have to be changed in the mix/mastering first.
This acetate comes in Grundman Mastering’s own cover, displaying PRINCE’s name as well as that of his label ("Paisley Park Records"). The info on the cover and on the disc labels hints at the "album sides 3 + 4" being included, as well as the date of production of this configuration ("12 February 1987") and also that of the making of the acetate ("18 February 1987"). The planned release date at the time already was "23 March 1987", according to a note on the front cover. While side 3 features a scratch, side 4 is in mint condition.
The scarceness of acetates in general and Prince’s reluctance to share comparable items has led to 3- and 4-figure prices fetched for any proven authentic item of this kind.
You have a chance to buy a piece of (Prince’s own) music history here today!
Hight and width of the item (cover): 31,5 x 31,5 cm = 12.6 x 12.6 inches
Diameter of the acetate record itself: 30,2 cm = 12 inches
SONGS ON THIS ACETATE (sides 3 & 4):

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (6:29 min)
