PRINCIPAL EDWARDS - 'ROUND ONE' - STEREO VINYL LP - 'DEMO', FACTORY PRESSING - DERAM - SML 1108 - 1974

Description

A 33 1/3 RPM stereo vinyl LP, 'Round One' by Principal Edwards.

The album was released in 1974 on Deram.

After Principal Edwards Magic Theatre split, in late 1971, the 'Magic Theatre' part of the name was dropped and a more 'rock-oriented', six-piece band emerged.

This was the only album recorded by that line-up. Recorded at De Lane Lea Studios, London in 1973 and released the following year.

All of the tracks were original compositions, see the track listing below for writing credits

Musicians:- Belinda Bourquin, keyboards, violin, recorders and vocals; David Jones, congas, bongos and percussion; 'Root' (Cartwright), guitars and mandoline; Richard Jones, bass and vocals; Nick Pallett, lead vocals and guitar; Geoff Nicholls, drums and percussion: (The first three were part of the 'Magic Theatre')

Produced by Nick Mason and engineered by Dick Plant and Douglas Bogie

The laminated sleeve was designed by Mike Giliker. The back cover has musician and recording details etc. and full lyrics. There are small, individual, b&w photos of each of the band members taken by Leena Komppa and Suzette Stephens.

Plain, white paper, poly-lined, inner sleeve ('Made In England' printed on one side, plus a product code)

NB. This is a 'demo' disc marked as a 'factory sample'. The labels are pale pink and plain, with no indication of the record company and no track details or band name printed on them. The only indication of which side is which is an 'A' (written in ink) beneath the spindle hole on one side. The labels state that 'This pressing is not necessarily representative of the finished record', although all the tracks are  present and in the correct order.

The inner sleeve has 'PRINCIPAL ED'S A 74 DEMO ROUND ONE' written in the top, right-hand corner on one side. The other side has, what appears to be, a dedication scrawled across it - ' A pressy for Wilfie TA! UGH! WHA! TOOOO MUCH MAN YEA', underneath is a signature (which may be one of the Jones's?). The catalogue number is also written in the top, right-hand corner.

No noticeable marks or scratches, no pops or surface noise on playback .

The sleeve is G+, with some edge wear and faint ring wear. The laminate is lifting in places, and there are some marks. The bottom, right-hand corner has a small tape repair There are two stickers that I haven't attempted to remove.
