At the end of the 1961 Tony Sheridan sessions in Hamburg there was a little time left over. Tony's backup band The Beatles were told they could tape a couple of numbers. They recorded John singing lead vocal on Ain't She Sweet plus instrumental Cry For A Shadow. Both recordings were promptly forgotten.
Until 3 years later & Beatlemania, that is. In 1964 Atco Records secured the rights to Ain't She Sweet, dusted it off, & issued it that Fall. Even though the song was ancient (written in 1927), the magic of The Beatles' name rewarded Atco's crass commercialism with a Top 20 hit.
Don't be fooled by cheap fakes; look for "AT" in the trailout wax.
