~ Follies Bazaar "84" ~
Daymare

self-released by Follies Bazaar records # URI '84

a very obscure privately pressed vinyl lp record
that is a communal college project effort recorded at
Normandy Sound Studios in Warren, Rhode Island by an
entourage of guys and chicks & LPs in this series are
listed by Hans Pokora and are in Acid Archives

very obscure acoustic/electric Rural folk
Psychedelic collaborative collective group out of
URI [University of Rhode Island] in Kingston, RI that
began as a collective in 1970 as Perspective renamed
Follies Bazaar after releasing a few really amazing
LPs & this college URI was known for having "High Noon"
where students'd gather 'round & they'd Smoke Weed
at noon & this group sounds like high noon to us!

who lived and recorded in the town in Rhode Island
this was recorded at the time (Warren, RI)

~ condition ~

record is in Excellent Condition and has
been fully play tested & it sounds great with
just light crackle here and there & the vinyl is
shiny & clean with almost no signs of wear
and has nice bright clean labels

the cover is in Very Good + Condition and has
bright bold colors with no seam splits, writing or
markings but does have wear around the edges

displays & plays well

~ additional info ~

features all sorts of different instrumentations
with songs running the gamut of naive folk rock songs
to jammin' electric jazz rock & '70s rock boogies

other related communal
Rhode Island psych folk groups:

CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS
and RIGHT OF LITTLE REST

these sorts of private press records are really
obscure and were made in extremely small quantity
thought to be limited to be just 200 copies

great creative songs, sounds and recordings
done by college kids, hanging out having fun coming
up with music influenced by the times with sub-culture
underground feel with elements of jazz rock & prog

this particular Lp is fairly late in this yearly series
and while the sounds are a little more modern than
earlier ones, this collective always was a little behind
the times, musically - which is a good thing in their
case because it put forth styles and sounds that
were influenced by great earlier music

~ privately pressed ~

there was a time
when vinyl was the preferred format
for releasing records & many musicians would release and
distribute their own recordings when they couldn't find a
label to release their recordings & these types of DIY records
are referred to as "privately pressed" by today's collectors
and are now hard-to-find & sought after because they were
almost always made in extremely small quantities as artistic
or craft-based endeavors rather than purely commercial
ventures with no attempt at cashing it in commercially often
making for interesting & innovative DIY recordings that are
more honest, experimental and unusual than commercial
releases & many "private press" records have never been
'discovered' by today's listeners making them important
to collectors of many different recorded genres
