The Australian band Procession had a little more international exposure than most groups from their native country in the late 1960s, achieving an album release in Britain and the US, though without commercial success. The rare, self-titled album, which appeared on Smash in the United States, was a curious mixture of California-like sunshine pop harmony rock, a dab of trendy psychedelia, smooth MOR harmony pop, and a bit of jazz. They also issued other material, including a 1968 single, "Listen," which sounds like the pop-psychedelic phase of the Small Faces. That particular track didn't make the LP, but does appear on the compilation So You Wanna Be a Rock'n'Roll Star Vol. 2, on the Australian Festival label.

Before Procession, several of the band's members had been in the Australian band the Playboys, and a couple had been in the Librettos. Procession got plenty of media coverage in Australia with a weekly spot on a national TV show, but didn't become stars there, and like several other Australian rockers of the time, moved to England for a while in a vain attempt to crack the international market. Two of the members, Craig Collinge and Mick Rogers, later surfaced in Manfred Mann Chapter 3.

Procession's rare and only album sounds a little like a cross between late-'60s California sunshine pop and British psychedelic pop, with the emphasis falling heavily on the California soft-harmony rock part. At times it sounds a little like a less-slick Association with different production, though without the immediately memorable pop hooks that gave the Association  several huge hits. The songs are sweetly pleasant, with some of the lyrics and arrangements indicating exposure to a commercial psychedelic mindset, without getting too weird or experimental. There are also odd detours into pop-jazz suitable for light entertainment segments of television variety shows, particularly on the scatted "Signature Tune." Ultimately Procession  doesn't have its own identity, though fans of soft rock would certainly count it among the rarer items in their collection should they find a rare copy.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, JUST A NOTCH BELOW NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS STRONG NEAR MINT,  STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP   (A PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam

-        Cover has a small cutout hole in one of the corners

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
