60's and early 70's White label promotional Lp's are highly sought as they are the first to be pressed from the freshly cut master and have the best sound quality. Very limited, they were sent only to select radio stations & publications for review. Many years later, they are sought items by collectors for reasons mentioned above

John Cale's first post-The Velvet Underground album, Vintage Violence, turned from the aggressive and rough path that band followed to a direction marked by a much more sophisticated, polished, and intelligent pop. The Academy in Peril marks another turning point, as Cale explores his classical training and background to create an album of well-crafted, temperate music.
John Cale's first solo avant-garde effort is a very singular work, divided in three kinds of pieces: the long keyboard sonatas (Brahms by the way, is very pretty), the drone-like orchestral symphonies (3 Orchestral Pieces) and the modernist sketches, respectively the marimba-driven exotic nightmare of King Harry, the jazzy dilemma of The Philosopher and the tattered melancholy of Days of Steam. The later kind is the most entertaining, the rest sounds very mature and compelling, elsewhere an amateurish feel is undeniable. Cale's influences are very marked. The soundtrack album to a movie that never existed. A great Sunday morning album, it takes more listenings to fully appreciate it, all the nuances involved are amazing ~ another great John Cale work...
