Description
I worked in several radio stations in the 70s as a 3rd Class Engineer which meant that I wasn't able to do much but manage the record library, receive new promo copies, audition records and add notes for the DJs about each one...not too bad of a gig. When the radio station would change format to say Country from Rock, distributors would still send Rock Promo copies for months even though the station wouldn't play them. Station management realized they didn't have to pay me meager wages as I would accept records in trade...so ta da, my DJ record selection. I use Goldmine grading standards rating the condition of each record and made notes of any writing or other significant condition comments ...all records in protective archival sleeves
This set of Chicago/ CTA 45s include (I noted whether the record was marked Promo or not):
- Does Anyone Know What Time it is? (both sides) one version shorter; marked "Radio Station Copy" DJ stickers & writing on label; both sides have considerable airplay and light scratches that might be audible
- Questions 67 & 68 (both sides) one version shorter; "Radio Station Copy"; some DJ writing, a removed stamp, a date stamp; both sides have seen airplay but condition looks VG on the record surface with the long version having light scratches-short version looks clean
- Old Days (both sides) ; marked "Demonstration" ; appears unplayed, unmarked Mint label does have some bubbling from manufacturing; sleeve has DJ writing for cataloging
- Brand New Love Affair I&II one side, short version on reverse; marked "Demonstration"; DJ queueing labels on long version, few light scratches, light airplay; Reverse side no markings, does have a couple of scratches that may be audible
- Call on Me/ Prelude to Aire; marked "Not for Sale"; Plug side has stickers and writing, some airplay wear, light scratching; B side appears unplayed; tail at label has some DNA? that could probably be cleaned off; should not be audible during the song
- Harry Truman (both sides); marked "Demonstration"; it looks never played, no writing and I see no scratches, record MINT; picture sleeve has a thumb hole in the center and writing on it
- 2 copies of Harry Truman/Til we Meet Again, with NO markings for DJ copy; both have some scratches that may be audible
- Baby What a Big Surprise/ Takin it on Uptown...tiny break on record edge...giving this free
- Just You N Me/Critic's Choice; some airplay and scratches
- Wishing you were here/Life Saver; DJ labels & writing-not marked promo; oops this one has a break at the edge...free on me
- Call on Me/Prelude to Aire; not marked Promo; has writing and light scratching on the plug side; reverse has deeper scratches that are likely to be audible
- Old Days/ Hideaway; not marked promo; Plug side has light airplay and a few light scratches ; reverse has a scratch that will likely be audible
- I've Been Searching So Long/Byblos; not marked promo has light writing and a few light scratches; reverse has more scratches that may be audible
- Hard to Say I'm Sorry/ Sonny thing twice' not marked promo; I didn't see any scratches on the plug side but looks like a deeper cleaner would help it sound sweet; reverse side has multiple scratching that will likely be audible; Full Moon label
- If she would have been faithful/ forever; not marked promo; appears unplayed, looks Excellent
