It's been noticeable how much more content John Lydon has appeared of late, back in the guise of his Public Image Ltd project, which despite being largely judged as the 'later' of his works saw its debut single released 37 years ago. What's more, his legendary status finds a very agreeable vehicle in 'What The World Needs Now', which houses as rebellious, theatrical and charismatic a performance as ever from the old stager. It's largely stylistically based in his trademark viscous brand of guitar-driven post-punk, yet this tenth album is marked by a renewed brand of mischief and malice that makes it a potent transmission from an eternal iconoclast.
