Description
This is the mother of all rarities folks and you know it!!! The ultimate CURE collectors dream but equally sought after by the KBD/SYNTH/NEW WAVE and everything else brigade....and quite right too because the Mag Spy`s tracks completely rock! The item just never appears because released on a private label in July 1979 there were only 100 copies pressed and any that are left are tucked away in collections around the world and unlikely to be seen again!!!
On Dance Fools Dance records, the independent label was founded by RIC GALLUP and ROBERT SMITH of the CURE.
The Mag Spys tracks are "Lifeblood" and "Bombs" and both are really strong tunes and stand up to most great Punk/Art Punk tunes kicking around at the time! Simon Gallup played Bass with the band who were formed from the ashes of Lockjaw (whose two singles prior to this are really good too!).
The Obtainers tracks are "Yeh Yeh Yeh" and "Pussy Wussy" and are basically primitive punk by two 11 year olds and i have to say are completely lost on my ears! Very minimal and not any where near the quality of the Mag Spys....unless you like that kind of thing!!
What is really incredible about this piece of history is that there are TWO unused stickers in immaculate condition and an insert (all pictured!) The record was NEVER released in a picture sleeve so the chances of these still remaining and in this quantity and condition is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY!!!!
Now to the condition. Both sides look VG, that means there is some small surface scratches and a few marks in particular both sides have a "Misty" type of marking which i think may well be apparent on cheap vinyl presses like these are but how can you tell when you never see any others!!!. The Mag Spys plays great with no problems whatsoever. The Obtainers plays with no skips or jumps BUT at the beginning there is certainly a "Whoosh/click" noise for some of the time, but to be honest, it never worried me cos i think it`s crap anyway!!
THIS IS A VERY HONEST DESCRIPTION and because of the rarity i am trying to be over cautious so that you are completely happy with your purchase!
I have left a reserve on this record which given the scarcity is laughably low...get your bids out then!
