Fuente y caudal (translated in English as Source and Flow) is the ninth studio album by the Spanish composer and guitarist Paco de Lucía.
Fuente y caudal is the title of an album by Paco de Lucía, released in 1973 by Fonogram.
It is Paco de Lucía's fifth solo LP. With this album a new cycle in Paco de Lucía's career begins. The young man from Algeciras demonstrates in this LP a level of technical perfection and style that until now had not been achieved by any flamenco guitarist. The national and international projection of Paco de Lucía will become a reality with the release of this album, thanks to the popularity achieved with the rumba Entre dos aguas. Released in 1973, Fuente y caudal also had an important impact among fans who followed the career of the guitarist from Algeciras, also bringing flamenco closer to many people who until then had remained indifferent to this type of music.
The album contains eight songs initially attributed to Torregrosa and Paco de Lucía, although, as almost always, they are by Paco exclusively. The second guitar is played by his brother Ramón de Algeciras. Curiously, it is a forced work, to fulfill the record contract, where only the taranta that gives the album its title was ready. Once seven songs of the album were recorded, and to complete it, a semi-improvised rumbita (Entre dos aguas) was added, with bass and bongo, which will definitively catapult the genius of Algeciras to fame.
It appeared in 1973, it was republished in 1975. In 1981 it appeared in an economic series on cassette. It appeared on CD in 1987. In 1990 it was remastered, and in 2003 it was again revised for the edition on the Integral box set.
