ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and exceedingly rare 10" LP from La Voix de son Maitre (FBLP 1024, French pressing, red/silver label, mono) features the celebrated Paganini Quartet in a sublime rendition of Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor Op. 10, recorded in Paris in 1949, a true landmark in the Debussy discography. At this time, the Quartet was comprised of violinists Henri Temianka and Gustave Rosseels, violist Robert Courte, and cellist Robert Maas.
Even on their ‘home’ label of RCA their discs remain quite elusive and highly prized, their availability on European pressings almost phantom-like.
Incidentally, the beautiful cover art is by Jean Dumon. For the interested, the matrix numbers are as follows: D9-LRB 4068 - M3 136534 / D9-LRB 4069 - M3 136535.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, bumping at corners, creasing, and discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits or owners' markings and the album remains very solid and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. The surfaces are not CD silent – there is occasional light surface noise – but in general the playback is quite good. If you need a MINT or near-MINT copy, then please do not buy this LP. This is a very good collector's copy.
