The vinyl record grading system is used to describe the condition of a vinyl record. The grading system is as follows:
Mint (M): A record in ‘mint’ or M condition is considered to be perfect. It means that it is sealed and has never been played.
Near Mint (NM or M-): The record in ‘near mint’ or NM condition has been played no more than a few times. It appears glossy and has remained on a shelf between other vinyl.
Excellent (E) or Very Good Plus (VG+): The record in ‘excellent’ or VG+ condition has been played a few times and has been well taken care of. It may have some minor signs of wear and tear and minor surface noise or pop(s) .
Very Good (VG): The record in ‘very good’ or VG condition has been played many times and may have some scratches and scuffs. It may also have some surface noise.
Good (G): The record in ‘good’ or G condition has been played many times and has significant wear and tear. It may skip or have surface noise.
Fair (F) and Poor (P): The record in ‘fair’ or F condition has been played many times and has significant wear and tear. It may skip or have surface noise. The record in ‘poor’ or P condition is unplayable.
