Description
Offered here is a beautiful and rare item, a 10" Pathe picture-backed disc from 1905. The Pathe picture side is in excellent condition, some gradual fading but generally pretty bright and very clean. The side with the music is not playable as the thin wax layer is cracked and crazed. These early (1905) Pathe discs were made of a thick (1/4") concrete disc with the picture printed on paper glued on the back and a thin layer of vertical cut wax on the other side with the grooves. For the record though, it's an unnamed artist singing or playing something from Barber of Seville. They were only produced this way for a year - 1905-6 - and by 1906 they had changed to shellac discs, no doubt because these ones didn't last long or sell well. As a decorative item however...
This rare and beautiful Pathe disc would look absolutely gorgeous mounted on a wall in your music room...
