Description
Paul McCartney – “CHOBA B CCCP” released 1988 / 1991 –Melodiya A60 00415 006
This is Paul’s ‘Russian’ recorded over two days and featuresPaul going back to his roots by performing his favourite 1950s. This was originally released exclusively in the U.S.S.R. on vinyl in 1988 and only featured 11 songs, later releases had 13 songs – and this was available for a short time to members of Pauls fan club ‘Club Sandwich’.
This is my Club Sandwich version:
- Comes with a special edition of the ‘Club Sandwich’newsletter as an insert.
- The back of the sleeve is White.
- The MPL logo appears at the bottom right of the front cover.
- Has two extra tracks “Summertime” and “I’m Gonna Be A WheelSome Day”.
- The inner back is translucent.
An import version reflecting the original Russian pressing was available for a short time and the copy here was bought in the Virgin Megastore in London at the time of its release.
There are some sleeve differences:
- The back of the sleeve is yellow.
- There are only 11 tracks.
- The track listing is in Russian (with English translation below).
- The MPL logo appears at the top right of the front cover adjacent to the Melodiya logo.
Both albums are MINT. The Virgin records copy still has the price sticker on the front and the remains of the store sticker (not fully removed - see the picture above) at the top right on the back of the sleeve. There is also a slight bit of folding at the bottom left (I only noticed this when I got it home). The sleeves for both aren’t as robust as UK sleeves but are nonetheless in excellent condition.
I have another import copy of this I bought in London in another record shop – almost identical to the Club Sandwich version – so if you miss this one – keep an eye for the other listing.
