Brief Artist & Album Info:  "Coming Up" is a song written and performed by Paul McCartney. It is the opening track on his 1980 solo album McCartney II. Like other songs on the album, the song has a minimalist synthesised feel to it. It featured vocals sped up by using a vari-speed tape machine. McCartney played all instruments and shared vocal harmonies with wife Linda McCartney.

The single was a major chart hit in Britain, peaking at No. 2 on the singles chart. In the United States and Canada, the live version of the song performed by Paul McCartney and Wings (released as the B-side to the single) saw greater success. Recorded during solo sessions of the summer of 1979, the A-side appeared one month later on "McCartney II".

Probably the most memorable thing about the release was the stunning video that Paul made to promote the song on television. Recorded on 26th/27th March 1980, film-maker Keef McMillan used a new computerised desk to have Paul appear as ten people AT THE SAME TIME.

A band that Paul cleverly dubbed "The Plastic Macs".

Paul imitated the looks of, Buddy Holly, Frank Zappa, Ron Mael, Andy Mackay, Ginger Baker (looking more like "Animal" of The Muppets !) and even a 1964 Beatle version of himself !

Linda also appeared in two guises making "The Plastic Macs" a 12-piece band.

"Coming Up" on the B-side was recorded live on December 17th 1979 at the Glasgow Apollo with the last Wings line-up.

The second track, "Lunchbox/Odd Sox" was recorded in L.A. in February 1975 during the Venus And Mars sessions, and featured the earlier "Mark V" version of "Wings".

The single was released in a picture sleeve, once again on an original Parlophone label.

Labels:

The Black Parlophone Labels are Both in SUPERB condition with NO signs of Spindle Wear or Spider Marks to Side 1: and Only 3 Spider Marks showing on Side 2: There is no Writing, Marks or Lifts anywhere to be seen. This record has Obviously been very well Looked after as Apart from the 3 Spider Marks mentioned they are Faultless. I have No hesitation in grading them as Excellent++!!!!

Vinyl:

Plays throughout absolutely SUPERB there are no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are a couple of surface marks and thumbnails showing. However these NOT interfere with the superb sound quality. This Single plays up to and  beyond its visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from Paul McCartney. Little surface sound and no tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing single, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Excellent++!!!!

Cover/Sleeve: The Sleeve is made of a Very flimsy nature and has done Very well to Still be with us today, considering it is nearly 40 Years old. It is made of a semi Gloss paper and has no Writing. Rips, Tears or Marks anywhere. It is as Clean as the day it was First issued. I have owned this record for over 20 years and stored it with the Sleeve and Single placed in separate plastic wallets. However the previous owner had stored them Together so you can see a Very slight Indentation from where the Record sat in the Sleeve, these have caused two Very light Creases to the Bottom. Apart from those it is in Perfect order. This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Excellent+ condition simply because of it's design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade it as Very Good++/Excellent!!!!

Cover/Sleeve Summary: Not seen often, this one is in lovely condition with only gentle clues of age, any blemishes mostly light. This classic cover should please many collectors.

Single/Album Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint; the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus, plus)!!!!
