V. Rare Paul McCartney "Press to Play" 1986 LP signed by the man himself and fully authenticated!
The LP was won by me after entering a Radio 1 Competition at the end of 1986/early 1987 on the Bruno Brookes show! The competition as I recall involved naming the titles of the intro's of 10 Beatles song (with a little help from my dad)! After entering the competition I was absolutely amazed to find I'd won, as I'd never won anything before, let alone a Radio 1 competition!
The McCartney LP in question was his 1986 offering "Press to Play", and the man himself signed the Album on the front top right of the cover (in thick felt pen). The LP was dispatched to me by Radio 1 and arrived in a thick cardboard mailer marked "recorded delivery" and dated "13th January 1987".
There is also a compliment slip from BBC Radio 1's 'Egerton House' studios to authenticate the item and verify the signature as that of Paul McCartney. The compliment slip states:-
"Congratulations on winning our Paul McCartney competition, your signed album is enclosed. Keep tuning in at tea time"!
With the compliments of Bruno Brookes Show.
The LP has been played only once so Vinyl is in mint condition. The LP has been stored in it's original mailer for the last 25 years, however the brown cardboard of the mailer seems to have dappled the LP sleeve slightly, giving a vaguely sepia effect with a few spots on the outer cover. It has been dry-stored in the house all this time so i'm not sure why this has happened, but the sleeve could i'm sure could be rectified by someone in the know (I'm loathe to touch the sleeve as I certainly do not want to erase Macca's signature)!
In summary, this is a very rare item, with McCartney's signature fully authenticated by Radio 1, and there is even a signed "Bruno Brookes" promotional card enclosed along with the Radio 1 "letter of authenticity" (although i'm not sure whether this will enhance the value of the item or diminish it)!
The item will be sent by recorded delivery, well-packaged, with Radio 1 compliment slip verifying the authenticity of the signature, original recorded delivery mailer from Radio 1, and even the signed Bruno Brookes DJ flyer as an added bonus!
