Description

Title: Ram (Dedicated Mono Mix, not a stereo fold down)

Artist: Paul McCartney

Catalog: MPL Hear Music HRM-33452-01

Jacket: Near Mint, no dings, splits or other detractions

LP: Sealed, NM

Notes: Previously commercially unreleased monophonic mix of the RAM album.
Comes in mock white label style with white inner sleeve and insert. Pressed by Optimal Media GmbH. The sticker says copies are numbered and is on the LP label itself. The browning that is shown against the plain white jacket is "built in" and NOT actual browning itself. The jacket design is modeled to simulate a plain test pressing type jacket indicating a little age.

You may be wondering why there was a dedicated mono mix of an album made in the 70s. If so, you're pretty sharp since mono was largely phased out by this point.

There were some interesting mix choices (or errors depending on how you look at it or who you ask) and the album would not fold down to mono without creating a phasing type sound and some elements nearly disappearing from the mix. Mono fold downs (stereo mixes with both channels combined into one) were used for radio but the stereo copy wouldn't work in this scenario and hence the dedicated (different) mono mix that was initially only issued for radio promos and only recently reissued.

This is the mono mix of Paul & Linda McCartney's Ram that was remastered at Abbey Road studios in 2012.

Some slight differences vs the stereo mix (comparing to the 2012 remaster lossless) are heard like less reverb on the vocals, different fades on some songs, and a stronger overall bass sound.

This was always one my favorite McCartney albums, every song is a great one, no filler IMO.

Contains the two sided single hits Too Many People/Uncle Albert plus one of Paul's hardest rocking songs (featuring a fuzz bass tone) Smile Away.

Out of print, was issued in 2012 for the first time in Mono and on vinyl only from what I understand, along with the re-issue stereo mix vinyl.
