Paul Pena/New Train/Hybrid Recordings HY 20019 (2000). Vintage 2000 Still Sealed LP, as shown. This item is new and still sealed with no cuts. New Old Stock.  This album was recorded in the early 70s (1973) as the follow up to Paul Pena's Capitol self-titled debut LP from the late 1960s. Then, Paul Pena was enjoined by label owner Albert Grossman from releasing this album over a legal dispute. Paul Pena, a diabetic and blind, had no financial resources to fight the case. Ben Sidran, the album's producer and ex-member of The Steve Miller Band, snuck a cassette copy of the recordings out of the studio and gave it to his old boss, Steve Miller. Subsequently, Miller recorded Paul Pena’s composition Jet Airliner in 1977. That song peaked in the top ten upon release. Paul Pena was able to live from the royalty proceeds of that song for most of his life. In 2000, a deal was negotiated to finally release the 1973 LP. It was a limited pressing and has gone on to become a highly sought vinyl rarity, especially still sealed. Paul Pena, originally from Hyannis, MA, passed in 2005 in San Francisco, CA. He was an extremely talented performer and songwriter and certainly never received his due during his lifetime. I had the privilege of seeing him with his band in the early 1970s at a small college in Vermont. It was a spectacular show!
