Paul A.R. TIMMERMANS : “S/T” (Private Press, 1983) (Jacket: Mint/ Record: Mint). Paul Timmermans is a virtual unknown and sadly overlooked Belgian Fluxus artist. This LP was only released in an edition of 200 copies and is mega recommended. Gimmick jacket with metal plate attached to it in w hich the composers name is imprinted. Comes with inner sleeve. The music itself is quite organic and minimalist in its approach, built around slowly changing parameters, sound objects and the interplay bet w een them. Grab your change now before this minimal masterpiece will be discovered by a larger crowd and its price will skyrocket through the ceiling. A true gem of a record that beholds some of the most deliriously beautiful minimalist inspired wavelengths hidden within its grooves. To some extent it does remind me to Ragnar Grippe's “Sand” LP on Shandar Records, only that this album surpasses Grippe's sonic excursions several times as far as austere beauty, warmth, hypnotic qualities, mystery, spontaneous flow and inter-phraseologic change. Though Timmermans' minimalism is of an unusually emotive and sensual nature, it never fails to be complex in its simplicity, finely constructed drones and clattering pulses produce altered attention states in the attentive listener, and his work is alive with an anguished and penetrating sensibility which makes it far from static. Its organic music, vibrant with life, fragile and at the same time robust as a rock. In short it has mesmerizing in its sheer inventive beauty. Hard to believe such a gem of a disc remains still undetected by all those hardcore music maniacs out there. This is one of the best discs you will probably ever hear in your entire life, take my word for it. Comes w ith a detailed insert by the composer himself. This gem is just too beautiful and austere to but down in words. Original press, only 200 copies made back in 1983. If fellow droners Taj mahal Travellers, La Monte Young and Ragnar Grippe are to your liking, then you will be blown to smithereens by Paul Timmermans. His record is way scarcer as aforementionned minimalists and will cause spontaneous levitation. AWESOME!! All time sky high recommendation
