Description
Genuine pressing of the 1996 US Epic label Pearl Jam
Vinyl LP Album 'No Code' (EPC 4844481 1) Complete with all inserts/photo cards. No Reserve.
This is a Genuine vinyl pressing of the 1996 US Epic label Pearl Jam LP album, No Code. catalogue number, EPC484448 1. This is all original and in very good + condtion - the vinyl has been played less than 10 times.
The item you see in the photos is the item available in this auction. The format is a gatefold with further fold-outs. The document consists of One Disc and a record sized sleeve of 9 gloss photos (like massive polaroids) taken by the band reflecting the images on the front cover - they have Vedder's hand written lyrics printed on the reverse which is a nice touch. This is all complete and they are in excellent condition.
I'd ask that you please read down to the end of the listing as there is some important info there, including some nice quality photos.
A wonderful album ,since it has both humility AND directness. as you can see from the photos on the flip outs inside, Brendan O'Brien and Pearl Jam went to great pains to keep that elastic analogue sound by using Studer 2" tape machines and valve mics and it pays off in spades.
This album was recorded and cut for vinyl...you need to understand the meaning behind that sentence - a sculpted piece for the medium that was at that time appearing to be singing its swansong. it would show Pearl Jam the muso's; an aspect of their approach seen later in their decision to release concert bootlegs. No more is this duty to the disc in evidence than with Jack Irons' brilliant drumming on In my Tree and Who you are - captured beautifully, you can hear the room and the thunder and work created by the rhythmic driving force, almost letting it fall but keeping it going through sheer control. it was a turning point album too for Vedder, on tracks like present tense you can hear an element of the contemplative entering his palette - he has seen that you must get what you can sometimes and make the best of it...if Vitalogy, the precursor to No cade, was an album of wall hitting angst, then No Code is the sound of him pushing off bottom and beginning to re-emerge..more colours on this one...an inperceptible but present country tinge to the melancholy, which is more healthy and sunlit than the black closed blinds of Vitalogy. The sound is more early black sabbath than trebley modern American rock if that makes sense - they really go to town on the expanse and woodiness of the recording setup with some pretty dirty guitar textures fitting in really nicely on tracks like Smile, another Vedder sark-fest...and Hail Hail must rank as on etheir finest analog saturated tour de forces of heaviness (not heavy in the metallica sense). all in all a fulcrum album that was MADE for vinyl.

Now to this particular copy of the album:
I'm starting this at £3.00 and with no reserve, this is going to give everyone a look in and hopefully increase the chances of a proper auction in the true ebay sense
I am selling to raise funds
I'll ship this with a fluted stiffener and a quality 625 micron, side seamed record mailer with fragile and DO NOT BEND (in both English and your native language if outside English-speaking countries) I always obtain a certificate of postage and will remove the record from the sleeve to prevent any ringwear or abrasion.
Hopefully my photos should tell you a lot. i took care to take them in natural light and with the option to double zoom to a pretty large size. I didn't clean the records beforehand so what you can see is those filaments of lint or dust that you always get on reocrds.
It's difficult to get a good photo of a record surface; it being a natural refractor of light and circular to boot - interference patterns are created by the grooves - but i endeavoured to do so. I present it in its most unflattering light as this is distance selling and i like to think the eventual winner sees what i saw and there are no surprises. wherever i saw the merest hint of a buff or scratch, i tried to angle the surface so the camera would pick that up.

As a guideline to help you, I'll stick roughly to this grading system. where I show something like NM/VG- - it refers to Vinyl condition/Sleeve condition
it is surprisingly dificult a) to describe condition without becoming generalised and b)taking good photos to show condition. (note: i don't believe in giving NM status - as this gives the impression that it has just left the shop, when I prefer to be slightly critical if anything)- Mint Vinyl- unused unplayed still sealed/ sleeve - same
- Near mintVinyl - evidence of being removed and played but hardly noticeable
- could pass for new/ Sleeve - maybe the slightest sign of handling if you really looked for it. - Ex (and gradations thereof) - Vinyl - tiniest wear, maybe one or two light brush marks in vinyl under reflected daylight but you'd have to look for it - obviously only been played less than about 6 times (Ex-)/ Sleeve - very straight sleeve - maybe miniscule amount of buffing on corners only - no creasing or ringwear visible.
- VG (and gradations thereof) Vinyl - maybe one or two light brush marks - and light scratching - nothing that would diminish the audio playing/Sleeve- light buffing on corners , perhaps small amount of creasage in sleeve, light buff marks on edges - but nothing consistent.
- G (and gradations thereof) - more scratches in evidence, maybe a light scratch which can be seen without strong light, and especially without reflected light. speckle scratching - which would be evidence of enduring light abrasion - as if on inner sleeve. audio - although listenable - occasional crackles in evidence caused by physical profile of surface. probably been played at least 60-70 times. Sleeve - ringwear in evidence - maybe shabby edges and definitely some buffing maybe short corner tears in evidence. inner would prbably either be yellowed at edges and possibly torn slightly at corner.nothing though that would compromise the vinyl. (i missed out grading for moderate conditions as one only needs to know if its worth bidding on or not, i feel - none of my albums fall into the moderate or crap categories.)
- Cr (and gradations thereof) - vinyl - in advanced state of wear, scratches galore and advanced speckle scratching to the point where the needle would probably jump on occasion. - for completists and the curious mainly. still plays but also could be used as a skateboard if you wish. Sleeve - falling apart at the seams - advanced ringwear and corners torn. maybe can see the vinyl edges through the sleeve. creasing or evidence of folding.

Condition
Overall: Vinyl VG/VG sleeve and inner: VG/VG+- the vinyl is in very good condition.. its been played no more than about 10 times. - Side A - VG : (at a certain angle in room light) Apart from a couple of fingerprints and some dust (those omnipotent little curled hair like particles or lint) I can see a few areas of radial hairline very light 2 cm odd speckle scratches
Side B- VG : some very light hairline speckle scratches across a 6 cm bar on one half of the disc - also at a certain angle looking hard. please bear in mind I'm putting this under the microscope here. - No spindle hole deformation on side A or B -
- The sleeve and inners are in very good condition. the photos are all complete and are in good condition - i have had it stored in a record case - erring on the critical side - its a decent quality card, semi matte gatefold sleeve with further vertical gatefolds, making the whole thing quite substantial with record and photos inside; both the record aperture and the photo apertures are pretty tight the record gatefold outer has tiny amount, almost imperceptible burring along its edge.
.
- a tiny bit of white buffing on front corners and spine extremities. no crease on inner gatefold hinge, but gatefold hinge opens easily, probably due to the spine thickness.
- The corners have a very small amount of buffing (see photos), none on edges, no deformation on record slots.
- colour printed matte inner paper sleeve is clean and tight with slight buffing at each corner (about 1-2 mm) - no deformation on gatefold and aperture closes tight when no record in.
