I have here a rare treat for anyone interested in one of the darkest moments in recent American history: a SEALED copy of the "He's Able" vinyl album, released in 1973 by the People's Temple Choir!
For those who may not be aware of the story, here's a synopsis: The People's Temple was founded in Indiana in the mid-1950s by a preacher named Jim Jones. What started out as a Pentecostal Christian church with a strong focus on social justice and communal living soon became a full-fledged cult rife with abuses. After having been in California for much of the 1970s and attracting considerable controversy, Jones took several hundred of his followers to a remote community in the South American nation of Guyana. The community, officially called the "People's Temple Agricultural Project" came to be known as "Jonestown," a name which later became synonymous with the mass suicide/murder of more than 900 members in November of 1978.
This record was released by the church's choir five years prior to that tragic day. I do not know how many copies were produced. What I do know is that very few exist today, and even fewer are still sealed. I've only seen one other on the internet in such condition. It is, truly, a rare item. The front cover of the album features a color photo of the choir members standing alongside a body of water. On the back are several black and white photos of the members and Jim Jones, along with the track listing as follows.

Notice that there is a printing error on the Side One tracklist: both the second and third songs are numbered 3. I do not know if this is a feature of all copies of the record that were made, but it is interesting.
A couple of websites say that inside the package is a tithe/donation envelope from the church building at the time. I've not opened the album to find this out for myself, nor do I wish to. There are, as pictured, some minor creases on the top two corners of the record. Otherwise, it appears to be in perfect shape.
For those who, like me, have a fascination with the Jonestown story and cults in general, this record is a real gem.
