Description

On offer here is an incredibly rare Pete Dello and Friends LP on the Nepentha label from 1971 the record being a white label test pressing. This record has been rightly acclaimed as a lost classic and with so many good songs on it along with a fantastic sleeve should have shifted thousands of copies. This gentle and melodic LP contains Pete Dello's songs left over from his Honeybus era and it took some persuasion from his manager to release this album.

The superb artwork by Roger Dean alone should have been the icing on the cake the drawing inspired by the song Harry the Earwig, but with little or no promotion by the record company which was the Phillips/Vertigo conglomerate this album was doomed to failure. It sold so few copies it probably never even made the bargain basement boxes.

The sleeve itself is in Good to Very Good condition with no rips, tears or writing. The edges and spine show some wear and the cover has that typical unlaminated appearance where the colour has slightly faded with age. The inner part of the gatefold sleeve is in great condition.

However the best part of this album is the record itself. This is a white label test pressing made directly from the Direct Metal Master plates, not from the record plant. This lp would have been pressed up for a handful of people  prior to release and was never meant for general sale. The only people who would have had these would have been Pete Dello, possibly session players and the record executives as well. Perhaps the singer himself has written on  these labels as there are no smudges with the pen  and it has been fairly neatly penned.I have only just noticed but the album number is 6437001 on side 1 and 6437010 on side 2 . How's that for casual seventies laid back feeling, that surely says everything about this record!!!!

The LP plays remarkably well. Side 1 plays to EX+, every track plays with great clarity, side 2 does start with 4 clicks  on the first track but then procceds to play equally well. Don't forget  on this album nearly all the songs are gentle quiet songs so any crackles, surface noise can be easily heard. This record has been well looked after and must be one of the best in existence.

There is no reserve on this item but please remember you are probably unlikely to come across a white label test pressing again.

Postage UK £2.75, Europe £4.50 elsewhere £8.00. Insurance will be required on purchase.
