Mega rare 1981 box set of Kotik's minimalist avant garde masterwork, a monumental setting of Gertrude Stein's experimental text. Kotik conducts his S.E.M. Ensemble (and also performs on flute) in a composition that combines influences from 14th century composer Guillaume de Machaut, John Cage, and Stravinsky, featuring aleatoric components, an unusual mix of modern and medieval sonorities, and interesting extractions of musical threads from Stein's barrage of wordplay. Includes insert that folds out into a poster with art by Charles Clough.

Kotik is a composer, conductor, and flutist who founded the SEM Ensemble, worked with David Tudor, Lejaren Hiller, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Lucas Foss, adapted the words of R. Buckminster Fuller and Gertrude Stein into experimental compositions, and is known for his pioneering realization of the complete musical work of Marcel Duchamp. • Stein was a highly influential author of experimental texts and arts patron who associated with and helped to nurture Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, Ernest Hemingway, Thornton Wilder, Sherwood Anderson, Georges Braque, Brion Gysin, and the Cubism movement. Her words have also been put to music by Virgil Thomson and James Tenney. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings.
