Description
This is a true find. Classic Records, 180 gram RTI TEST PRESSING, 1 of 20 or fewer pressed, first stamper. Pressed January 27, 1998. Matrix number BN/554 A2 B2.
I played this one once, otherwise it's as clean as it can possibly be. The sound is unbelievable. Quill Test Pressing Artist: Woods, Phil & Quill, Jean Product Condition: As you probably know, test pressings reflect the closest you can get to the lacquers and hence have a special collectible value and store of value. Originally a '59 release, one of three official duet dates released on LP by these two. As usual, sparks fly between the dueling alto saxes when the "heir apparent" Woods is joined by the seemingly unknown and definitely under-recorded Quill. Arrangements salute some of the all-time greats with material from Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Dizzy Gillespie, and a fitting tribute to those giants it is. Fantastic Epic "Stereo-Rama" recording from producer Mike Berniker. Doxie I, A Night In Tunisia, Hymn For Kim, Dear Old Stockholm, Scrapple From The Apple, Doxie II. I hate letting this go, it's the money right now, that's all.
