Cover: vg+ (light ring wear; 1/2" split at center of bottom seam of front flap) Hard to find set, the original release of this early minimalism classic on the composer's own label. Droning loops with complex, constantly-changing time signatures influenced by Indian music evolve into dynamic, densely textured atmospheres. Glass would later call this piece "a little too spacey for my tastes" but I think it's among his greatest works. He performs on electric organ and flute along with his keyboard-heavy, electrified ensemble consisting of Barbara Benary, Steve Chambers, Jon Gibson, Dickie Landry, Arthur Murphy, and Robert Prado.

Philip Glass studied with Vincent Persichetti, Darius Milhaud, William Bergsma, Nadia Boulanger and Ravi Shankar, worked with Laurie Anderson and James Tenney, and is associated with the late 20th century 'minimalism' movement along with John Adams, Steve Reich, La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Charlemagne Palestine, Phil Niblock, and Tony Conrad.
