Pretty good late sixties pop with some psychy edges. Sits nicely alongside the two Kaleidoscope albums and maybe the first two Nirvana LPs with a lightweight but well played and ultimately enjoyable sound, not an album I could play every day but one I enjoy whenever I do play it. Lovely sleeve too!
Condition:
Sleeve: Good quality single sleeve made of thickish card laminated on the front only manufactured by EJ Day with the Patents Pending notation on the rear. Mention has to be made of how lovely the front looks too with that lovely drawing of the girl’s face surrounded by flowers on a vibrant yellow background with the title in huge red letters down one side of her face, a real period piece which looks great displayed on the front of my record shelves.
The whole sleeve is generally in very good condition with one obvious flaw, the front looks great and shows the lovely artwork off to fine advantage, it’s very clean with no tears or writing anywhere and only some very small light creases coming in from the spine, nothing of any consequence. There is a small scratch between the H and E of the THE in the titlewhich I’ll admit that I’ve only just noticed it’s not anything really serious but it is there. The lamination is still clear and clean and provides a nice sheen to the sleeve but the sleeve is a bit crinkled and uneven, it’s probably been wet at some stage and has dried unevenly, at arms length in a PVC sleeve it’s hard to spot the uneveness, it’s only really noticeable by looking at the open edge which is uneven. This affects the front more than the back of the sleeve and I’ll try and take a photo which illustrates the uneveness.
The unlaminated rear sleeve is also in nice shape. It’s a bit yellowed with age and has to a lesser
degree the same uneveness as the front but it is clean with no writing or tears defacing it.
The top seam is totally unworn.
The bottom seam is also totally unworn
The spine is also totally unworn, although a little uneven it’s clean with all of the writing clearly readable.
Record: The disc is in pretty good shape too. It’s very clean and flat and the vinyl has a nice dark shine. When viewed under normal light it looks just fine with only the very occasional small extremely light scuff mark showing, no nasty deep marks or scratches just superficial light little marks and not many of those, if you were to see this in a shop or at a record fair you’d be happy enough. When held under a harsh lamp there are a few light hairline marks to add but just the sort of thing caused by taking the record in and out of the sleeve and which are totally inaudible.
The two labels are in perfect condition. Both are very clean with no writing, stickers or tears and very little visible spindle wear. The matrix numbers in the run out grooves are 63129 A1 and 63129 B1.
When played it lives up to the high standards set by it’s visual appearance with a clean clear sound which does full justice to the fine music contained. It’s obviously been played a few times over the years but there’s no wear to the grooves or distortion anywhere. There are some very low level crackles audible between tracks but these are extremely quiet and don’t interfere with the music at all so they don’t spoil you enjoyment in any way, this is on side 1, side 2 is even quieter. Although they have to be mentioned I must stress that this noise is between tracks only and is low level passive background crackle only, no loud clicks or pops and certainly no deep scratches and what noise there is is drowned out as soon as the music starts and even the quietest parts of the music play without any interference.
This is actually my old copy which has become available due to me getting an upgrade. This copy has served me well for many years and although not mint will be a welcome addition to any sixties collection as a good playable enjoyable copy of a very rare record, it won’t be easy to find a better copy!
