Picnic A Breath Of Fresh Air Harvest Pink Floyd original UK LP excellent on HARVEST LABEL - rare 1970 UK double LP on Harvest record label. Catalogue number is SHSS 1 & 2 with Maitrix SHSS 1 A-2, SHSS 1 B-1 / SHSS 2 A-1, SHSS 2 B-1 and stampers 2 AH/ 1 AA/2 AA/1 AR. This is the original 1970 UK pressing on heavy, solid EMI vinyl that I have had since purchase in the 70’s. The vinyl on all four sides in EXCELLENT++ condition (as near mint as you will get) and still maintain their lovely clean shine/sheen. There are very few papery surface marks but no scratches – even under bright light, hardly any surface marks or traces at all. The labels are also in pristine condition - mat yellow/green with black HARVEST text (no EMI logo just Harvest) and have ‘The Gramophone Co Ltd’ text on rims. The labels have clean, smooth surfaces and no writing. There are no spindle marks - both discs hardly played. I have kept it unplayed in a pristine condition. The LPs are housed in the original poly-lined plain inner sleeves that are in excellent condition.
The artwork is also special – designed by Hipgnosis - on a laminated gatefold sleeve (laminated front and back; laminate ends on the inside of the gatefold sleeve) printed and made in England. There is a slight record impression on the front and back of the sleeve but nothing The inner gatefold is black and white and unlaminated- with pictures of the artists and their LP sleeves from which the tracks are taken. There is no writing or foxing on the inner sleeve – making it a really nice copy. The edges of the sleeve are all excellent with minimal wear and tear as are the corners (hardly any scuffs) and the spine laminate is still intact with text clearly legible.
This classic LP is a fantastic retrospective of the progressive Harvest label with key tracks by Syd Barrett, Roy Harper, Deep Purple, Pretty Things & many more. But what makes it unique and collectable is the inclusion of the Pink Floyd track ‘Embryo’ (without the band’s permission so was quickly removed from sale) and is Pink Floyd’s rarest song – never issued as a single or B-side and not issued on any official album bar this). In addition to Embyro it contains a superb collection of songs from cult bands with great tracks and great producers too (Norman Smith, Andrew King, Peter Jenner, Gus Dudgeon and John Peel).
