“Gamelan Degung Parahiangan (West-Java)” features traditional Sundanese gamelan music performed under the direction of Pimpinan E. Tjarmedi. The recording presents the distinctive Degung style from the Parahyangan region of West Java, Indonesia, known for its elegant melodic patterns and the shimmering tones of bronze gamelan instruments.
Released on Mata Hari Records (catalog number MH 169 006-H) and distributed by Dureco. The album showcases several traditional compositions including “Berber Lajar,” “Lambang,” “Padajungan,” and “Ladrak” on Side 1, and “Mangari,” “Palwa,” “Duda,” and “Mangintin Penambah Barlen Gede” on Side 2.
These recordings highlight the rich textures of Sundanese gamelan ensembles, with metallophones, gongs, and drums creating layered rhythmic and melodic structures typical of West Javanese ceremonial and court music.
Vinyl is graded Near Mint (NM): minimal signs of handling with excellent playback.
