Pink Floyd 'A Saucerful of Secrets' Album 1968 Stereo Pressing SCX 6258, probably a 3rd Pressing. There is a mis-spelt credit for Gilmour on Saucerful of Secrets Track (Gilmore) on the cover and record label. The inner label is Black and Silver, and the credits on tracks 3 on side 1 and 4 on side 2 cover two lines, most copies have them on one line only.
The sleeve is in very good condition except for the fraying along the rear mouth of the cover with the original sepia advertising inner sleeve, (actually advertises 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn SCX 6157) I have had this LP from new some 53yrs. Played through both sides without any nicks or jumps, and there is a heavy mark on track 1 of side 1, some background noise on the 'deadwax' interludes and quiet sections, but plays well throughout.
Originally thought to be a 1st pressing due to the Matrix and Mother Stamp marks. Matrix markings are; Side 1 - YAX 3633-1 with 1v1 original mother stamp at 9 o'clock; Side 2 - YAX 3634-1. The vinyl does have some marks and scuffs, plus a few light scratches, but as said has no effect on the overall play of the album. In terms of condition rating - I am no expert, the records have been cleaned with wet wipes and was played on a Technics turntable using a new Technics P24 stylus. The overall vinyl condition I would say is Very good +, based on the above and that the vinyl looks clean with some surface marks and scuffs, the centre is clean and with some spindle marks (see photos)
Considering its age, the record plays exceptionally well throughout with a good depth of sound with little background noise that virtually disappears if 'Dolby Mute' is used.
I have tried to grade using the Record Collectors Grading, as below: Excellent (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc. Delivery is by signed Royal Mail, 2/3 days
