Pink Floyd - a still sealed, Tower Records pressing of their 1968 LP, A Saucerful of Secrets

A Saucerful of Secrets was Pink Floyd's second album, and the last album to feature band founder Syd Barrett, who plays on three songs and provides a vocal on one.  The album was the first to feature guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour, and was also the first of their albums to explore the longer, spacier type of songs for which they late became well known.

Allmusic describes it thusly:

A transitional album on which the band moved from Syd Barrett's relatively concise and vivid songs to spacy, ethereal material with lengthy instrumental passages. Barrett's influence is still felt (he actually did manage to contribute one track, the jovial "Jugband Blues"), and much of the material retains a gentle, fairy-tale ambience. "Remember a Day" and "See Saw" are highlights; on "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun," "Let There Be More Light," and the lengthy instrumental title track, the band begin to map out the dark and repetitive pulses that would characterize their next few records.

While the UK pressings were issued on the large Columbia label, the American pressings wee issued (in stereo only) on the small Capitol Records subsidiary label Tower.   The album was released in mid-1968, but Tower Records was more or less out of business by mid-1970, making American pressings of this LP quite difficult to find, especially when compared with UK pressings.

The album also featured a gorgeous cover by longtime Pink Floyd collaborator Storm Thorgerson, aka Hipgnosis.

THE RECORD

This record, Tower ST-5131, is still sealed and is believed to be perfectly mint.  This album was released in stereo only; mono copies of the American pressing are not known to exist.

This is an original American pressing, and is not a counterfeit, reproduction or import.

The record is pressed on thick vinyl, indicating an early pressing of this LP.  The recordings are analog, not inferior digital, recordings.

THE COVER

The cover is still sealed in its original shrinkwrap, and the record has never been opened or played.  The shrinkwrap does have at least one breath hole, which were commonly found on Capitol-pressed records.  The small number 9 in the lower right hand corner of the back cover indicates that the record was pressed at Capitol's Jacksonville, Illinois pressing plant.

The cover and wrap are virtually perfect, with no tears, dents or other visible damage. The white portions of the cover are pure white.
