Cover            EX+

Stored in a protective sleeve from new, the Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold sleeve is in truly stunning condition. No discernible marks, discolouration or ring wear, and just the absolute bare minimum of very light edge creasing (e.g. on bottom right corner, see photos). Extremely solid and strong, closes evenly, firm spine with fully legible text, no powdery white ring wear or ring press. Very slight snip at top right corner (see photo). Inside is printed “File Under Popular: Pop Groups”. A fantastic example.

Inner             EX+

EMI plain white inner with “Care Of Your Record” box has only the lightest of creasing and no discolouration or edge splitting.

Labels          MINT-   

Flat matt Harvest labels with boxed EMI logo are superb, clean and bright with rich colours and no discernible spindle traces.

Vinyl             MINT-   

The vinyl is in absolutely stunning condition, no discernible scratches or hairline marks, both sides glossy and bright with no dulling or smudge marks. The LP has been fully play tested on a Project/NAD system with new Ortofon cartridge. There are no skips or jumps, and just the merest of static and crackle in some of the quieter passages, overall amazing sound quality and a really great listen. As I believe is common on the earlier pressings, the drip at the end of Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast continues in the runoff groove, which makes the sound play in a loop.

I have included the maximum of 12 high quality photos, taken in good light with a decent camera and from a variety of angles, so you can properly judge the detailed condition of the cover, inner and labels for yourself. Any notable marks or defects on these aspects of the LP will be clearly visible in the photos.

My own gradings are based on the standard record collector guidelines (see below).

I am not a record dealer, I am a 48-year old North London vinyl enthusiast re-creating my own private collection (having foolishly sold all my original LPs at a university record fair in my twenties!). The LP will be sent in a new polythene sleeve together with two additional card inserts set inside a new dedicated record mailer envelope. The vinyl will be separated from the cover to prevent any ring marking in transit. The package will be securely taped and marked with additional large “FRAGILE” taped stickers twice on both sides.

RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE GRADING GUIDE

MINT: The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
