Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon
(Harvest Records SHVL 804 UK LP 1973)
This is an original 1973 UK LP pressing. Technically, this is the first UK pressing to have "Clear Prism" Harvest labels. This is the next best thing to extremely expensive "solid blue prism" UK 1st pressings. The sleeve & inner sleeve are the same on this pressing as the "solid prism" UK 1st pressings.
This LP has a heavyweight matt gatefold sleeve. The black colouration of the sleeve, as mentioned, has a blue tint to it.
It comes with its original custom polythene-lined plain black company inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has clear prism Harvest labels. These have "The Gramophone Co..." text at the upper perimeter. There is one boxed "EMI" logo. The matrix numbers, (& mother stampers), are as follows:
Side 1: SHVL 804 A-2 (GMO 5)
Side 2: SHVL 804 B-2 (GPH 3).
Unfortunately, there are no Posters & no Stickers. This is a genuine 1973 UK pressing. It is the very first UK pressing with clear prism labels. These have "The Gramophone Co..." text & only one boxed "EMI" logo.. The record has extremely early A-2/ B-2 matrix stampers. It comes with its original polythene-lined plain black inner sleeve. It also has a "blue tint" sleeve too. These are definitely the next best thing to expensive "solid blue prism" label UK 1st pressings.
Gatefold Sleeve: There is mild, moderate to considerable rubbing wear to the top edges on some areas. There is some light, mild or very mild on the bottom edges on some areas. There is moderate rubbing wear on the corner tips. There is a very small 1.5 cm area of more moderate rubbing wear on the spine. Otherwise, the spine is quite nice & clean. There is some light, mild or very mild rubbing wear on the front & rear sleeve. There is some light, mild or more moderate ringwear on some areas. There is light, mild or very mild foxing on some areas. This is not that noticeable. There is light, mild or more moderate rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges on some areas. Overall, Very Good minus condition
Vinyl: There are some light, mild or very mild sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on some areas. These, again, hardly notice under a strong light. There is one very light 3 cm hairline surface rub mark on Side 1. This is not that noticeable under a strong light. Overall, Very Good+ condition. The labels are in Very Good condition & show mild or very mild spindle wear. There is some light, mild or very mild foxing on some areas. This is not that noticeable. The company plain black inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Good++ to Very Good overall. There is some light, mild or very mild crackle in the background to a varying degree. This is mainly only noticeable in the quieter places. There are a few areas of more moderate crackle. This doesn't last too long. The crackle does not overpower the music in any place. There are no noticeable clicks or pops.
This LP would definitely benefit from a professional deep down groove clean. Any crackle, in the main, is just due to deep down dirt in the grooves. This LP would play Excellently, I believe, after a professional deep down groove clean.
