Description
An original and well preserved analogue copy from '74. Matrix A3/B3 - often regarded as THE best mix of quality audio and relative good value [Versus 1st issue $$$]. Just 12 months after 1st release and still producing some top audio - way way cheaper than those super expensive '73 copies. How do we know it's from this early? Well, when EMI came to drop Gramophone from the perimeter text on all it's Lps - they made an error on the Dark Side Title. In Apr74 DSOTM copies were pressed with TWO references to Made in Gt Britain! Clearly an error and would be soon rectified - but it really helps to date these copies. Worth going for as they are near-master copies and were still being pressed heavy. Emi pressed with precision and in the analogue domain. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover matt and without barcoding. Sticker top left on front. The 1st issue covers have a solid opening panel [i.e. it has been glued together at the factory]. And this cover is the collectable MIDNIGHT BLUE colour version. There's an original generic white EMI inner too. Posters are Absent - but we have two stickers.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In super condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a few slightest marks per side, perhaps a very superficial trail - absolutely nothing heavy or troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback....with slight deviation briefly in a couple of spots. Intros and inbetweens are nice and clean and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. The first sign you're onto something enticing is when you hear those initial heartbeats with a clean background...that's unusual. And this example is managing, predominantly a very nice clean and assured delivery. Packed with clean analogue goodness. This badboy is locked and loaded. Expect nothing more than some light presence noticeable in a couple of passages [e.g. BREATH and Us&Them - both are notoriously difficult to find perfectly clean]. And a couple of isolated ticks per side [pretty minimal]. This record is acing it. High class and difficult to put down!
Cover (Ex-) Really well preserved. Front looks superb with only slight handling signs. The rear is looking brill too. Rarely do you see a genuine original looking this tidy. Slight edge wear - pretty minimal really. And it is looking VERY dapper! The interior is looking superb. Spine is superb. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
