Description
An original DSOTM copy from April 1973. Matrix 2/3. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original 1st edition heavy-card gatefold sleeve [without the 2nd issue sticker]. This vinyl would have been pressed during the transition period between 1st and 2nd issue - roughly six weeks after 1st release. The prism image on the labels has now been hollowed out - and this is the design all future pressings would adhere to. But this copy still holds two of the original label design features - the "Gramophone" text in the perimeter and "Made in Gt. Britain" at the foot. Also included is the original black patent number inner sleeve and both crack-back stickers. Sorry, no posters.
Vinyl (Ex-) In great condition and has only seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection there are a few of those very light marks - nothing heavy though. A thorough testing reveals a mostly NEAR EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Very nice solid audio as you would expect from these early pre-oil crisis pressings. Interference is both light and infrequent. All we detected was a touch of light static in the occasional passage. Nothing invasive or persistent. And then just a few ticks in the "sustained-explosion" at the end of 'On The Run'. Providing you can live with that you will be treated to a very accomplished rendition. Especially considering how close it is to an original solid-blue triangle copy...perhaps coming just a couple of weeks later.
Cover (Vg+) In very nice shape and is holding up better than most examples. No creases evident on the front and just some very light surface handling. Please note both back and front are exhibiting a tiny sticker in the extreme corner. The rear is exhibiting just a bit of ring wear - it actually looks worse in the photos than it is in reality. The interior is in great condition - no issues. There's a bit of edge wear, but nothing significant. The spine is in pretty decent condition too. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and this has no doubt been aided by the heavy card construction.
Inner (Vg+) Does have a two inch side split. Otherwise aok.
Stickers (Ex-) Intact and unpeeled.
