An original 2nd issue of DSOTM on the UK Harvest label from summer 1973. Matrix A3/B3. Anyone balking at the cost of those solid-blue triangle copies would do well to consider a 2nd issue, like this example. 1st pressings of DSOTM occurred in March 1973 with the now very familiar solid-blue triangle design, which was then discontinued within a couple of months. The next label variation available during summer 1973 was the 2nd issue - THIS COPY. So, if you're looking to get some of that exquisite spring'73 sound THIS is the easiest/closest and most cost effective way. The heavy-set vinyl [and the early copies were much heavier than '74] comes housed in an original gatefold cover with the hype sticker. Note that the left hand panel is open, but looks like there's glue residue present [inside] and possibly would have been sealed originally. In addition we have both original posters, one [of two] stickers, the original blue text white inner sleeve too. So, 100% genuine and 98% complete. If you want your copy to look that bit closer to the Mar'73 ones we can also include a replica black inner sleeve. [the finishing touch!].
Vinyl (Ex+) In super condition and has clearly only seen light use. Under close inspection there's a couple of light marks per side - mostly innocuous very low-level. There is, however, one mark crossing track 2 on side 2 which looks marginally more noticeable. Given that this is DSOTM I have paid this mark considerable attention. I'm pleased to report it is superficial and does not appear to enter the audio spectrum [perhaps a couple of low-level static crackles at worst..nothing more upfront than that]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. As we can all attest ... DSOTM is one of the benchmark listens for high fidelity. Most copies be they old or new, and however much they've been used, will often reveal signs of use in the audio. DSOTM literally is unbelievably revealing. Only an early heavy-duty well preserved copy, which has seen light use on proper equipment, stands half a chance of delivering this title to the highest standard. These Gramophone copies do sound marvellous, however, finding a really well preserved one is not all that easy. Thankfully, this copy has survived to the present day in marvellous condition and I can testify that the audio really is top-level. Overall, and in general, the delivery is clean. We are talking low-mileage and no signs of use in the audio. So, even in the high dynamic range sections toward the end of S1 & S2 - this copy holds its own..it does not distort at all. Background interference? Not really..not at all really. You might detect the odd occasional couple of static crackles in a couple of spots per side....But by and large I would argue this is about as clean as it's possible to go. For me it delivers in all areas and it is about as good as its humanly possible to go.
Cover (Ex-) In great shape, but has survived the years in pretty rude health. Many covers will have seen considerable wear, but this example is only exhibiting light handling front and back. Nice deep black colours and the sticker is still in decent condition without peel. The interior looks fine with only a couple of discolouration marks over on the right panel - no great shakes. Edge wear is minor and the openings still sharp. The spine looks fab and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very fine example.
Posters (Ex) No issues. Very nice.
One Sticker (Ex) No peal.
Inner Sleeve (Ex-) No splits. Slight ageing.
